Caden 4 months

 

Another month has quickly passed! Caden is really starting to show us his personality. We are starting to think Caden is going to be our little dare devil. He loves rough play....good thing cause he will need it growing up with Calvin. :) He was being rocked in his carseat by another child the other day and while I was getting nervous of how far back the child was rocking him, Caden was squealing in delight.

Caden has been sleeping in his room since the beginning of August. I think I had a harder time making the transition and sleeping cause Caden only wakes up one time during the night to eat and goes right back down. Last night he even slept the entire night!!! Let's hope that continues.

We went to Caden's well check appointment and all looked great! He weighs 14 lbs 4 oz and is 24.5 inches long. I looked back at Calvin's 4 month stats and Calvin was exactly 1 pound and 1 inch larger than Caden. Bryon and I were so pleased that Caden put on weight with the new formula. We were really stressed about the financial burden, but God has blessed us every month with an amazing deal or two on Craigslist for formula.

Here is what Caden has been up to:
- 1st trip to Sedona
- Rolls over from his belly to his back
- Puts EVERYTHING in his mouth (I am guessing we will be getting teeth soon)
- Drools nonstop
- Growing into 6 month clothes
- Loves looking at himself in the mirror. He smiles and smiles.
- Puts his binkie in his mouth!!! (when he has it in his hand)
- Some days he likes the car and even falls asleep!
- Got to meet Aunt Susan. She came in town to help celebrate Great Grandpa's 85th birthday and Great Grandma and Grandpa's 60th wedding anniversary.

Happy Birthday Calvin (Part 2)

Calvin turned 3 on the 9th and he was SO excited to be three. He has been wanting to be three for a while now. There is something about the age 3 and 5 that seems to get kids really excited. Daddy had to work so Mommy tried to make the day as special as can be until Daddy got home to join in on the fun.

We started off the day with delicious oatmeal muffins and fruit for breakfast. Then the phone calls started coming in. It was so exciting to see Calvin's face light up when the phone would ring. He quickly realized people were calling to talk to him. He told EVERYONE he was going to see Daddy and Sgt Moller for lunch. We got a knock at the door and we found Daddy coming home to get his cell phone he forgot. He scooped up Calvin and sang him happy birthday. Calvin didn't want to see Bryon leave but we told him we were doing a special lunch with Daddy in a little bit.

Fast forward a few hours and Daddy was finally able to get away for lunch. French fries and hamburgers from In & Out! Yummy! And of course that meant Calvin finally got to see Sgt. Moller.  (Calvin has grown very fond of Bryon's boss. He talks about Sgt. Moller all the time. We even pretend to be Sgt. Moller, we drive police cars with Sgt. Moller, and call Sgt. Moller on our radios.) After we ate lunch Sgt. Moller gave Calvin a present, spider man action figures! He was making the noises and carried them around the station with him. Now time for the "meace" cars as Calvin says (police cars).

Calvin was sad to leave the station. He played with his spider man guys the whole way home. We had quiet time and played until Daddy got home from work. Then it was time to eat dinner. It was chicken burros for dinner with olives, avocado and pita chips.  We gave Calvin a gift at his party and left one gift for him to open on his birthday. He received an Angry Bird blanket, two Angry Bird shirts and a pair of shorts.

 (surprise surprise my eyes would not stay open. Calvin even said "Monny keep your eyes open!")

Caden even wished Calvin a happy birthday in his own special way.

We ended the night with a very special dessert for Calvin. He passed his soy food challenge so we bought him ice cream to try for the very first time.  He really liked it and became very cold afterwards. Good thing he received his Angry Bird blanket.

Happy Birthday Pumpkin! Mommy, Daddy and Caden love you very much. We pray that God continues to look over you in all that you do. Your personality shines so bright and brings so many people joy.

Come Walk the Plank ( Calvin's Birthday Part 1)

Argh Mateys! It was a pirate themed 3rd birthday for Calvin this year. We did a small party with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.  We encouraged all to dress up and boy were we surprised to see what showed up at our door! Pirate Captain Hook Calvin was ready to have fun!  We had hot dogs, hamburgers and french fries at Calvin's request. Daddy came to the rescue at the very end and put the french fries on the grill cause I forgot about them until it was almost time to eat.

We bought a pool for the back yard and I was a bit surprised at how big it really was. (I think all four of us can fit in there comfortably.) Bryon surprised Calvin with a car wash water toy he made for him.

After a long fun day, he read a couple of books with daddy before bedtime.

Calvin received A LOT of fun toys. He has been on toy overload of which ones to play with. He was given a couple of games too that we are having fun playing. It is fun to see how at times he will play the whole game counting the spaces and moving his characters along the way, while other times he could care less about spaces and creates his own path around the board.  

We had a great time with family celebrating his birthday! Thank you everyone for making his 3rd birthday something to remember.

Caden 3 months! (a bit late)

We had switched Caden over to the hypoallergenic formula a little over a month ago and what a difference it has made! We named it "Liquid Gold" when Calvin had to use it and thanks to Craigslist we have been able to save a lot of money. He is the happiest baby!! He is a bundle of joy around our house. He is starting to laugh, which is the best sound, other than the sound of him peacefully sleeping.

What we have done this month:

 3 month stats-  11.5lbs (with clothes and diaper) 23.5in. long

As you saw from our previous blog post, Caden got his first official buzz! If you haven't seen the post, it is a must see. His expression in one of the pictures is priceless!

He is starting to laugh! Daddy is the best in getting it out of him.

Caden has mastered making raspberries. He can also make big spit bubbles (Calvin gets a kick out of it.) We go through quite a few drool soaked onesies in a day.

He has fallen in love with tag blankies. He was given one at his baby shower and absolutely loves it! He has also taken over one Calvin received as a baby.


Our hands are endless fun. He even tries to get his whole fist in his mouth. Talented, I know :)

He enjoys his rattle, when he is given the opportunity. Calvin has become quite fond of baby toys again.

Enjoys sleeping on his belly! He will sleep on his back, side or belly. He still loves sleeping with his binkie.

 Caden took his first long car ride to Cardinals Training Camp and after much fear of him screaming the entire way, be shocked us and put himself to sleep and slept all but 20 minutes of the trip up. He is doing better in the car (not to jinx myself).

Saying goodbye to some food allergies!!!

Calvin- September 2010 Egg reaction- We quickly learned he was allergic to more than just dairy and soy

Calvin got great results from his allergy test!! Instead of 9 food allergies we down to an amazing 3- milk, egg, and oranges! We got the green light to do food challenges for soy and corn. There is a possibility that even though his reaction was not big enough to be considered an allergy, he could have an intolerance that would still cause him to avoid the foods. If he is able to tolerate soy, it would open up a whole new world of food for him.

Bryon and I are trying not to get too excited since this latest test showed more of a reaction than the previous one, but the doctor said it was safe enough for us to try. When we do the challenge we will start with soy first and do 25% soy milk with 75% rice milk and see how he does. He doesn't react with hives or welts like most allergy patients to soy and dairy. Calvin gets GI issues that leave him screaming in the middle of the night as his body tries to digest the food. That is the part that makes me and Bryon the most timid. He has been doing so well and we would hate to see him in pain BUT he may not and that is worth trying.  It would only take the one time of GI issues for us to have to avoid soy. The same goes with the corn.

Calvin also got to cross peanuts off his list of allergies. The doctor however said he does not want that challenged for a while and when we do it will be in the office. So even though it isn't technically an allergy we are going to avoid it just to be safe.

It is all very exciting and a bit nerve wracking. I have programed my brain to avoid these food and now we get to try them again...aaaahhhhh! We pray all the time that Calvin would outgrow his allergies and be able to eat whatever his little heart desires. Now we crossed off a few and get to challenge a few. All a very exciting answer to prayer. Dr. Casper is very confident in that Calvin will outgrown ALL of his food allergies. He originally guessed around age 7, but said between the ages of 3-5 a lot of kids start to outgrow foods. If he doesn't he won't know any difference. As long as he is happy and healthy, he can go without a few foods.
