Calvin the "ologist"

Calvin in his big boy carseat. He was 1 pound away from out weighing the baby one.

My mom recently told me that one of her student's parents called him an 'ologist' because he saw so many specialists as a baby. I started to laugh but soon realized Calvin was also becoming one.

So far in his short six months we have seen a neonatal cardiologist, a regular cardiologist, radiologist, neurologist, and possibly a opthamologist if Calvin's block tear ducts don't clear up.

We were referred to a neurologist because Calvin's head circumference was growing faster than they wanted. It is supposed to grow but his was growing so much in between check ups that he wasn't plateauing. Calvin's doctor sent us to get a head CT to make sure there was nothing major going on. The CT did not show any tumors or growths! It showed that the fluid around his brain is not being absorbed properly. This is something they are going to keep a close eye on over the next few months. We go back in a month and they will check him again. They wanted to get an MRI but Calvin has a cold so we will see how he is feeling at the next appointment.
We are praying that Calvin's body figures out how to absorb the extra fluid on his own within the next few months. He is meeting all of his developmental markers which was great news for the doctors. The doctors made us feel comfortable about what is going on but there is still a lot of stress and concern for Calvin from us.

In the meantime Calvin is still his happy go lucky self. Even with a cold he is still full of joy. Calvin is still rolling all over the house! I constantly find him in new places. He has found if he rolls close to a wall or our tv and kicks he makes noises. The wall I am okay with, the tv not so much. He is enjoying standing when you hold him up and just starting to push his knees under him. Food is still a passion for him. We have started stage 2 baby food. Some of his favorites are pears, banana, sweet potato, and apples. He refused to eat green beans. We even tried to mix it with his fruit but it didn't work. Calvin wouldn't even open his mouth!!
